BwO-Body without Organs(无器官身体)

Parkview Green is a new Design HOP Core Area for Beijing Design Week 2015
from 24 September to 7 October
This year Parkview Green is proud to host an exciting Design HOP program as part of Beijing Design Week (BJDW)’s 2015 city-wide event. As one of the new Core Areas, BJDW@Parkview Green FangCaoDi will explore the theme of "Innovation, Sustainability and New Forms of Making in the World of Fashion." From 24 September to 7 October 2015, Parkview Green will be transformed into a prime destiNATIOn not Only for shopping and dining but also exhibits featuring the most innovative products in the design world.
A series of installations, on-site creation enactments, events and exhibitions will be presented in the public areas throughout Parkview Green, focusing on engaging the public on specific processes of “making-unmaking-remaking.”
"We are excited to host a core location for this year's BJDW 2015 as design and of course fashion are in our DNA. They've curated some wonderful exhibits and presentations that we believe visitors to Parkview Green will definitely enjoy," says Oliver Lai, General Manager of Parkview Green.
"BJDW is thrilled to be partnering with Parkview Green to explore innovation, sustainability and new forms of making as it relates to fashion, product design and architecture with brand new Audiences," says BJDW Creative Director, Beatrice Leanza. "Parkview Green is a truly unique destination in Beijing and now a Design HOP area not to be missed,” Ms. Leanza adds.
Central to the program will be an onsite 3D Printing Station and a series of projects presented in a large-full scale3D printed installation made of three interlocked pavilions on LG2. The main feature of BJDW@Parkview Green FangCaoDi will be VULCAN, designed and produced by LCD – Laboratory for Creative Design. VULCAN will architecturally be the largest 3D printed structure in the world. The name is Latin for the English word “volcano” and is also the name of the God of Fire in Roman mythology. The emergence in the idea of VULCAN symbolizes a SENSe of adoration and respect for the unpredictable forces of nature, while suggesting the fragility yet courage ofhuman civilization. Structurally, VULCAN will be situated within an equilateral triangle, and will have a 120° angle of symmetry measuring 8.08 meters long by 2.88 meters tall.
BwO will examine the concept of “What is a human body?” in modern society. BwO – Body Without Organs explores the virtual field of the body, which has been draped in fabric, adorned with accessories and intoxicated by fast food. BwO aims to de-stratify the body, and the goal of the BwO workshop is to explore the potential of BwO to reconnect the body with its complex environments with specific affects and programs to form a “new body.” Supported by WAX Architects,ASW Workshop, and the Nanjing 3D Printing Institute, the Nanjing School of Fine Art will present a series of art work including a set of beautifully 3D printed wings, a spinal brace, an extreme sPORTS backpack, and more. BwO will be featured on ground level near the East Entrance of ParkviewGreen.
DeconstructingLiving is a furniture collection that arose from the #WhenAreYou Project, presented in BJDW2014, where visitors were invited to interact, crossing technological and personal experiences throughout the city of Beijing and Sao Paulo simultaneously. Always with the focus of promoting cultural exchange and urban experiences, Coletivo Amor de Madre, worked together with designer Henrique Stabile to develop a collection pointing to a future the brand envisions for design. The collection invites visitors to build their own furniture solutions upon their own needs and will be featured as part of BJDW@Parkview Green FangCaoDi.
